Hiking Kalepa Ridge [Video]

My girlfriend and I recently returned home from our vacation in Kauai, my favorite of the Hawaiian Islands. While on Kauai we hiked the Kalalau Trail and did a few day hikes of which the most spectacular was hiking on the Kalepa Ridge. Watch the video and come along with us on a magical hike.

This video was taken with my, now returned, Samsung Note 7 mounted in my DJI Osmo Mobile to get the nice stable footage. Recorded in 4K and exported to 1080p.

Location
The Kalepa Ridge trail isn't hard to find but it's location is not well documented nor is it published in any of the trail maps you'll find on the island. To find the Kalepa Ridge

DJI Osmo Mobile with External Microphone

Recently I received my DJI Osmo Mobile and was anxious to see if I would be able to use my external microphone, the Rode VideoMic, with the device to record audio with my video on my Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The potential problem was that the 3.5mm jack on my Note 7 would be covered by the right side of the gimbal mount. It is in fact partially obscured and does not allow the the right angle microphone cord to be plugged in with the phone mounted on all three contact points of the gimbal.

The Solution
As a potential remedy I attempted to mount my Note 7 offset to the left in the gimbal mount to accommodate the microphone cord. Being that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is a large phone (phablet) my concern was

Hiking The Kalalau Trail

This October I'll be returning to Kauai to hike the Kalalau Trail for the second time. I hiked the Kalalau Trail for the first time in 2014. For a sense of the wonder you'll experience on the hike check out my video.

The Kalalau Tail was a hike that I had wanted to do for a long time and I researched it heavily. With all my research I must say it was more than I had expected in the way of difficulty. Even in good physical condition this trail kicked my butt! Read on for info about the Kalalau Trail and my personal advice on how to make your journey less difficult and more enjoyable.

DANGER! Exercise Extreme Caution!
The first thing that should be stated is that the Kalalau Trail is very beautiful but it is also very dangerous. If fact it's rated at the 10th most dangerous hike in the America by Backpacker Magazine and one of the most dangerous hikes in the world. You'll be hiking in

Video Editor For Android

There are many quality photo editing apps for Android but when it comes to a capable video editing solution you have some difficulty finding an app that suites your needs. Sure, there are plenty of basic video editing apps for Android like Google Photos which allows you to incorporate photos and videos clips into your movie but the editor leaves something to be desired and the same goes for Adobe Premiere Clip which has pretty limited features.

After downloading countless video editor apps on my Android devices I came across an app called Power Director that has met and exceeded my expectations this far and has been updated regularly by the developer Cyberlink.

Features that set Video Director apart from other Android video editing apps

Solution to Windows 10 Anniversary Update Error 0x80070057

Windows didn't automatically prompt me to install the update but you can go to the Microsoft Support site and download the Windows 10 Anniversary edition which includes the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant. I ran the assistant software and the files downloaded correctly but when the install got to 2% it halted and I was presented with the 0x80070057 error.

I scoured the web in search of a solution. The 0x80070057 error is not new to Windows Updates so there was a lot of old and useless info on the web about it. I needed a solution specific to the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition update. Desperate I tried the old solutions which included everything from

Packard Plant Detroit [Urbex]

I was going through some of my older photos from a visit to the Packard Plant in Detroit, MI. The Packard Plant is a popular location for urbex photography by many local photographers. This photo was taken in 2011.

It was a gloomy day and I made my way to the rooftop. It was pretty crazy to see all the trees growing out of the old tar roof. Graffiti and urban decay is everywhere at the Packard Plant, you can see the debris at the ground level of this picture. In the distance you can see the collapsed roof on one of the many buildings. The neighborhood surrounding the Packard Plant is not the best so be careful if you decide to take a visit. It's best to go with a group if possible.

This urbex photo is and HDR shot from 3 exposures. The lightning was added in Photoshop for additional effect.
